traditional Lei flower is the Hinahina, gathered from the beaches.
Taken over by the US Navy in 1941 for bombing practice, Kaho'olawe was returned to the Hawaiian people in late 2003.
Kaho'olawe has more than 600 archaelogical and culturally significant sites, including Heiau or temples, on the National register of Historic Places.
Groups
can visit Kaho'olawe once a month and generally include less than 30 people.
